“I am absolutely thrilled to have been given this Honour in Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours List”.
I have been extremely fortunate to have been able to do all the things I have. I love my work, charitable efforts and I endeavour to make a difference to other people’s lives. I had great teachers in my parents and have been encouraged at all times to achieve and aim high by my wife Dee, my children and my siblings.
I am privileged to work with some very talented people at Town Centre Securities, The Leeds NHS Charitable Trust, The Leeds Jewish Welfare Board and The Grammar School at Leeds, from whom I have gained a great deal. Town Centre Securities is a fantastic business which is very active doing some very interesting developments, cutting edge technological enhancements and investment work across the UK. That has given me a foundation to become involved in many different aspects of life in Leeds and afar whether it is in business or with the wider community. I have a great working relationship with Leeds City Council working on the regeneration of some very exciting projects.
I have also been lucky enough to serve with a handful of other amazing charities all of which have a desire to improve people’s lives.
At the Leeds Jewish Welfare Board, I worked with many inspirational people from whom I have also learnt a great deal. Sheila Saunders of blessed memory was an amazing mentor and teacher. She led by example and had wonderful drive and imagination. I learnt much from her that I have been able to use in all my charitable work. In addition to some wonderful Trustees who made my task of being President so much easier, there were and remain many dedicated staff to whom I owe a great deal.
In the last 3 years since I became Chair of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charitable Foundation I have also worked with incredible staff and caring trustees. We continue to work hard to improve all aspects of patient experience within the Leeds NHS hospitals. The NHS is an amazing organization full of remarkable people who devote their lives to make a difference.
For many years I have been a governor at The Grammar School at Leeds. Under its new Principal, it continues to enhance educational provision within the city and through its bursary campaign is determined to extend its activities to less fortunate children.
I am hugely appreciative for the award and humbled by it…that said it is important to reiterate that I have been very fortunate to work with some great people who have become cherished friends along the way. I am also privileged to be able to do things I enjoy so what may appear a big effort in reality has been a complete pleasure.
